Tániste and Labour leader Eamon Gilmore has appealed to voters not to send "entertainers" to the European Parliament.

He was speaking at the campaign launch for the party's Midlands North West candidate Lorraine Higgins.

Mr Gilmore said investors would be looking to see if voters chose candidates who were serious about economic recovery or whether we would elect jokers.

In her address, Ms Higgins spoke of "mad-cap lefties" who would deliver nothing for the constituency or for the country.
