A three-year-old boy has been killed in a car crash in Co Monaghan.

The child was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in collided with another car on the N2 near Annamarron.

The driver of the car, a 36-year-old woman, was critically injured.

She was airlifted to Tallaght Hospital.

The woman driving the second car, and her female passenger, were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact them at Carrickmacross Garda Station on 042-9690190, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any garda station.
