A motorcyclist has died after he his vehicle left the road and struck a tree in Co Wicklow.

The 40-year-old man was fatally injured in the incident, which occurred at Calary, on the Kilmacanogue to Roundwood Road.

The crash happened at about 5.35pm.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to St Columcille's Hospital in Loughlinstown, where a post mortem is to be carried out.

A section of the road has been closed to allow for a forensic examination. Local diversions are in place.
