Five held as drugs worth €5m seized in Dublin

Five people have been arrested and a large quantity of cannabis has been seized in Dublin.

The drugs, with an estimated street value of €5.1m, were seized in Ballymun yesterday evening.

The seizure was part of an investigation by the Garda National Drugs Unit into an organised criminal gang.

In the first part of the operation, gardaí stopped a van and a car on Ballymun Road in the city.

They arrested three men; one in his 20s, one in his 30s and one in his 70s.

They also seized approximately 90kg of cannabis resin.

In a follow-up operation in a unit at North Dublin Business Park, gardaí seized approximately 240kg of cannabis herb and arrested a fourth man in his 30s.

A woman in her 30s was arrested in the Ballymun area a short time later.

The five are being detained in Finglas, Ballymun and Blanchardstown garda stations.
