A 79-year-old man has died following a work place accident on a farm in Co Carlow yesterday evening.

It is understood the man was struck by a front loader on a digger on the family farm in Bennekerry around 6pm.

Inspectors from the Health and Safety Authority are expected at the farm today.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Waterford Regional Hospital for a post-mortem examination, which will be carried out today.
