Garda injured while transporting patient to psychiatric unit in Cork

A garda sergeant has been treated in hospital after being injured in Cork city while conveying a person to the psychiatric unit at Mercy University Hospital.

The garda and two colleagues from Gurranabraher Garda Station were transporting the patient shortly after 7pm last night.

It is understood the garda received minor soft tissue injuries to his neck after he was pushed against a wall.

He spent the night in hospital on a precautionary basis and has since been discharged.
