An Irish Ferries vessel, which had been stranded in the French port of Cherbourg since Tuesday night, is sailing to Rosslare tonight.

A problem with the Oscar Wilde vessel's radar system had forced the cancellation of Tuesday night's crossing.

An Irish Ferries spokesperson said the majority of passengers had now returned to Ireland by alternative means.

However, the spokesperson said a small group had decided to stay on board until the ship was ready to sail.

The problem with the radar system was fixed today.
