Man held over Cork hit-and-run that left boy critical

A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run that left a seven-year-old boy in a critical condition in hospital. 

The incident happened close to the boy's home at Ballymacoda in east Cork between 1pm and 1.30pm on the main road through the village.

The child's father and neighbours raised the alarm.

The boy was rushed to Cork University Hospital where he is in a critical condition.

Gardaí believe that the incident may have been witnessed by a number of people.

They are appealing to people who were in Ballymacoda village around the time of the collision and who have not already made contact with them to come forward.
