The most famous painting of the Battle of Clontarf has gone on show in Dublin to mark the 1,000th anniversary of the battle.

The painting by landscape artist Hugh Frazer was completed in 1826.

It depicts Brian Boru in his tent during the battle.

The 3m x 2m painting had remained outside Ireland for many years.

It is on public display at the Casino in Marino until 23 April.
