A 41-year-old man has been remanded in custody in relation to an incident in which a young girl and two men had hot water thrown over them.

Martin Kernaghan, from Dumlin Grange, Ballyward was charged with intending to cause grievous bodily harm and with assault causing actual bodily harm.

The incident happened in a house in Ballyward last Thursday.

Mr Kernaghan was remanded in custody at Newry Magistrates' Court and his solicitor asked the judge if he could be put on suicide watch.

The solicitor said his client had been recently released from a psychiatric unit against his wishes.
