A 22-year-old man has been charged in connection with a holdall bomb seized by police in Belfast.

The bag containing an improvised explosive device was discovered by officers in the Shaw's Road area of west Belfast on Thursday night.

The man was arrested during the police operation.

He was today charged with possession of explosives with intent to endanger life.

The accused is due to appear in court in Belfast on Monday.

Officers discovered a viable pipe bomb and a quantity of ammunition during a follow-up police search operation in the Lenadoon Avenue area of west Belfast.
