Two people have been arrested as part of a police investigation into the murders of two Catholic workmen in north Belfast almost 20 years ago.

Gary Convie, 24, and Eamon Fox, 44, were sitting in their car at a building site in North Queen Street on 17 May 1994 when a gunman opened fire with a submachine gun.

A 48-year-old man was arrested in north Belfast and a 41-year-old woman was arrested in Antrim.

They are being questioned at Antrim police station.

The arrests are part of Operation Stafford, an investigation into a series of murders and other serious crimes by the UVF in north Belfast.
