A detective garda sustained a head injury in an assault in Kimmage, Dublin last night.

The attack happened at Ravensdale Park between 7.45pm and 8.45pm.

The garda, who was attached to Sundrive Road Garda Station, sustained a head injury during the assault.

He was treated at St James's Hospital in Dublin for injuries that are not believed to life-threatening.

Gardaí at Crumlin Garda Station, who are investigating the incident, have appealed for witnesses to come forward.
