A 63-year-old man has died in a single-vehicle crash on the R687, at Newtown, New Inn, Cashel, Co Tipperary.

The crash happened at around 2.45pm.

The man was fatally injured when the car he was driving left the road, entered a ditch and hit a tree.

He was pronounced dead at scene. He was removed to South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out.

A 35-year-old male passenger was taken to South Tipperary General Hospital, Clonmel, where his injuries are described as not life-threatening.

The road is currently closed to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Diversions are in place.
