An Irish business has begun offering a live online stream of funeral services for family members or friends of the deceased who cannot attend the funeral.

Founded by Co Clare businessman Alan Foudy, the service is aimed particularly at members of the Irish diaspora who are not able to travel to Ireland to attend family funerals.

The company will provide a password protected private weblink to a live stream of the funeral service or the option of a video recording of the entire service, including the burial, within two hours of its conclusion.

Mr Foudy said the idea for the business arose after he was asked to make a DVD of a funeral service for relatives and friends of the deceased who could not attend.

He said the service is only available with the approval of the relevant parish priest and family members.

Funerals Live is to create ten jobs over the next 18 months as the service is rolled out.
