Customs officers at Cork Airport have seized 120,000 cigarettes with an estimated retail value of almost €57,000.

The Marlboro brand cigarettes were discovered in 12 suitcases yesterday, when officers stopped and searched four men as they disembarked a flight that had arrived in from Wroclaw, Poland.

Two Polish nationals in their 20s were arrested by officers.

They appeared at Cork District Court today and were remanded in custody to appear at Cork District Court again tomorrow.

Revenue has asked businesses or members of the public who may have information regarding the smuggling or sale of illegal cigarettes to contact them on 1800-295-295.
