Plans for Ireland's first bitcoin ATM at a café in Temple Bar in Dublin have been shelved at the last minute.

Bitcoin vending company Bitvendo had planned to have the machine up-and-running in Hippety's Café this week.

However, it is understood that the plan has been dropped as agreement could not be reached on the contractual terms for the service between the parties involved.

A spokesman for Hippety's said the sticking points included the issue of who would be responsible for legally patrolling the service.

A spokesperson for Bitvendo said the ATM would be relocated to a mobile phone and computer accessories shop elsewhere in Dublin city centre.

They said it could be in operation as early as tomorrow.
