A priest was arrested during the week in connection with theft and fraud of a substantial amount of money in Dublin.

Gardaí say that the man, in his late 50s, was arrested following an investigation into theft and fraud over a number of years.

The priest was questioned at Mountjoy Garda Station.

He was released without charge on Wednesday night.

A file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
