A 60-year-old man has died in a farm accident in Co Kildare.

The accident happened at Castledermot at around 12.30am, when the man was checking stock.

It is believed he stumbled and fell on a pitch fork. He managed to get back to his house and alert his wife.

The man was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Health and Safety Authority has begun an investigation.
