Irish horse trainer Pat Hughes is facing court charges relating to the possession of substances contrary to regulations.

Mr Hughes appeared in Carlow District Court on 12 February on eight charges of possession of animal remedies following an inspection at the trainer's Fenniscourt yard in February 2012.

The case was adjourned until 8 May.

Chief Executive of the Irish Turf Club Denis Egan said: "We are aware of the Pat Hughes case. We are watching with interest and if anything comes out of it, we will take the appropriate action."
