Gardaí have said they are making "substantial progress" in their investigation into the murder of 64-year-old Thomas Dooley in Edenderry, Co Offaly.

Customers at a bar and a shop in Edenderry have been interviewed as part of the inquiry.

Mr Dooley, who was the father of three adult children, was murdered at the weekend.

Gardaí believe he may have been in the company of a number of local people in the hours before he was attacked at his home in Sister Senan Court.

Detectives have trawled though hours of CCTV images from the town and renewed an appeal to the public for information from anyone who interacted with Mr Dooley between last Thursday morning and Sunday afternoon.

Inspector Kieran Keyes said: "We are making substantial progress and we are getting an excellent response from the public."
