12,000 jobseekers have attended a careers fair in Dublin's Convention Centre.

3,000 Irish-based jobs were on offer at the Career Zoo event, including around 850 positions at indigenous firms.

Dublin-based technology company, CarTrawler announced it was recruiting 100 new staff over the next 12 months.

TripAdvisor, which recently opened its first Irish office was also in attendance, seeking to fill engineering roles.

For the first time, Irish companies outnumbered overseas firms recruiting at the event.

Director of Career Zoo Brian O'Hoisin said: "If people want to avail of these opportunities they need to look at their skill set."

"There are amazing programmes where you can, in a relatively short space of time, sometimes 12 months, go on an intensive course and get those skills that will set you on a new career path.

"Really and truly the opportunities are here on these shores," he added.

Symantec, AOL, Fidelity Investments, Johnson & Johnson, Pramerica, SIG (Susquehanna International Group) and State Street were among the multinational companies also recruiting at the fair.
