Staff at one of the longest-established factories in Waterford city have been told they are losing their jobs.

Honeywell Process Solutions, previously known as Measurex, is to close later this year with the loss of 27 full-time jobs.

There have been other job losses at the factory over the past two years.

The factory is located on the IDA industrial estate in the city.

It is understood work currently done there will in future be done in other parts of Europe.

Honeywell said it "continually evaluates its operations to ensure a competitive business model aimed at securing long-term growth and linked to the needs of our customers".

It added: "After careful consideration, HPS leadership has proposed to close the Waterford site and redistribute work across the company.

"This proposal is being discussed with union representatives for affected employees."
