A fundraising campaign has been launched to assist a 25-year-old Connemara man, who has sustained serious spinal injuries following an accident in Australia.

Ryan Croker from Moycullen, Co Galway sustained the injuries after he jumped into a swimming pool at a house in Perth.

He is being treated at the Royal Perth Hospital. His mother and sister have travelled to Australia to be with him.

Mr Croker was heavily involved with the GAA before travelling abroad.

Locals in Moycullen have established a benefit fund to raise funds for his treatment.

Organisers say they want to ensure that the necessary supports are in place to bring him home as soon as possible.

A number of events are planned and several thousand euro has already been collected.
