Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Dinny McGinley has accepted that there are problems with the level of Irish in the public service.

Mr McGinley told the Dáil that he is keen to have public servants with a higher level of Irish across Government departments.

He also assured TDs that a new Coimisinéir Teanga will be hired as soon as possible following the resignation of Seán Ó Cuirreáin.

The closing date for the position is tomorrow afternoon.
