Irish Times columnist John Waters has resigned from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland.

The BAI confirmed receipt of a notification from Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources Pat Rabbitte of Mr Waters's resignation from the authority.

Mr Waters was appointed to the BAI in September 2009.

"He brought additional expertise and experience to the authority through his previous service on the board of the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland."
