30 jobs go as Limerick food store closesMonday 20 January 2014 16.31
One of the best known independent food stores in Limerick, Ivans of Caherdavin, has closed after 38 years in business.
Up to 30 staff are affected by the decision of the owner Ivan Cremin to close.
He has blamed tough trading conditions for the closure.
The store on the Ennis Road in Limerick was a general store, but specialised in fresh food. It had a delicatessen and bakery, and much of its business was in catering.
However, in recent years, a major Dunnes Stores shopping centre, a Lidl store and a Tesco store opened close by.
Staff members were told of the decision to close last night.
A notice on the store confirmed the closure and thanked customers for their support.
