A woman in her 30s has been killed and a child injured after they were hit by a vehicle in Dublin this afternoon.

It is understood the victim was pushing a pram with a small child on the main Dublin Road into Balbriggan when they were struck by the vehicle.

The injured child has been taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital.

The driver of the vehicle is being treated at Beaumont Hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The road is closed for a forensic examination and diversions are in place.
