Gardaí investigating the murder of a man in Co Offaly have appealed to anyone who may have seen him in the Tullamore area recently.

A post mortem revealed that 47-year-old Christy Daly died from multiple gunshot wounds.

His remains were discovered in a drain at Kilbride, Clara yesterday morning close to a burnt-out caravan and two burnt-out cars.

Inspector Kieran Keyes said the last positive sighting of Mr Daly was in the Clara Road area of Tullamore on 29 December at around 8.30pm.

He is appealing to anyone who may have noticed Mr Daly in the Tullamore area. 

Gardaí are also appealing to anyone who may have heard gunshots in the vicinity of Bog Road, Kilbride, Clara between Sunday 29 December and yesterday, in particular 29 and 30 December, to contact them at Tullamore Garda Station on 057-9327600 or via the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111.

Mr Daly's body had been put about two metres into the drain and had been there for a number of days.
