A trade and investment mission to the Gulf led by Taoiseach Enda Kenny is under way.

The visit is part of ongoing efforts to boost trade and investment for Irish companies in the area.

The five-day visit incorporates four cities and three countries and Mr Kenny is being accompanied by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation Richard Bruton.

Mr Kenny was in the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh today, where he has numerous political and business engagements.

Tomorrow night he will continue on to Doha in Qatar, which is in the process of radical infrastructure development in preparation for the 2022 World Cup.

From there, the delegation will travel to the United Arab Emirates.

Mr Kenny will meet the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the delegation itself is expected to avail of the chance to improve trade and business opportunities for Irish firms.

The mission concludes on Thursday with a visit to Dubai.
