A 40-year-old woman has been charged with the murder of Wayne McQuillan in Drogheda on New Year's Day.

Paula Farrell of Rathmullen Park faced one charge at a sitting of Dublin District Court this afternoon.

She was remanded in custody to appear before Dundalk District Court on 8 January.

Mr McQuillan, 30, was found by gardaí in the front yard of a house at Rathmullan Park with a number of stab wounds at around 1.45am.

He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Evidence of Ms Farrell's arrest, charge and caution at Drogheda Garda Station this afternoon was given to the court by Garda Andrew Corbett.

He told the court she made no reply to the charge.

Ms Farrell did not speak during the brief hearing and Judge Michael Walsh ordered she be remanded in custody to appear before Dundalk District Court again on 8 January.

He consented to free legal aid and further ordered she receive any medical or psychiatric treatment she may require.
