The winter sales started across the country this morning with bargain hunters queuing outside shops from early morning.

Retailers are hoping for a much needed boost in sales today after pre-Christmas trade was hampered by poor weather conditions and problems at ATM machines. 

The sales began in some shops as early as 6am.

Some shoppers queued outside Brown Thomas on Grafton St in Dublin from 6am - three hours before the store opened its doors at 9am.
