A man has died and a nine-year-old boy was injured in a road crash in Co Galway.

The man, aged in his 40s, was seriously injured when the car he was driving hit a wall at Moyleen near Loughrea at around 12.45pm.

He was taken to the Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, where he was later pronounced dead.

The boy, who was travelling in the car, was also taken to hospital, however his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for a technical examination, but has since re-opened.
