Police launch murder investigation after death of Paschal (Basil) McAfee

The police in Belfast have launched a murder inquiry after a man with stab wounds was found dead in a house in the city by his mother.

Paschal McAfee (50) had been stabbed several times before the discovery at 1pm yesterday at a house at Henderson Avenue off the Cavehill Road in North Belfast.

A father of two, Mr McAfee who was also known as Basil had only recently moved into the area.

The police are now trying to trace his movements after he was last seen buying alcohol at an off-licence on Thursday afternoon.

At a news conference PSNI Detective Chief Inspector John McVea appealed to the public for information.

Sources say there is no evidence to suggest at this stage that dissident republicans were involved in Mr Paschal's McAfee's murder.
