A cross-border hunt is under way after raiders robbed €100,000 from a bank in Co Monaghan.

Gardaí and police in Northern Ireland are engaged in the search for the assailants after the raid at the Ulster Bank in Castleblayney at approximately 5pm this evening.

The raiders drove a vehicle into the front window of the bank and snatched a box containing cash which was being loaded into the bank's ATM machine.

The bank is located on the Dublin Road approach to the border town.

Two of the men involved were believed to have handguns.

Gardaí from Carrickmacross and Castleblayney rushed to the scene as the gang fled.

There were no reports of any shots being fired or anyone being injured.
