A 26-year-old man has been injured in a shooting in Limerick.

The shooting happened at Byrne Avenue in Prospect at around 9.30pm last night.

The man was taken to University Hospital Limerick with gunshot wounds to his stomach.

Two "hooded" suspects fled in the direction of Lenihan Avenue.

A 28-year-old man arrested in connection with the investigation is being detained at Roxboro Road Garda Station.
