A man and a woman have been injured in a shooting at a house in Tullamore, Co Offaly.

The incident happened as the 32-year-old man was returning to his home at Cluain Darach with his seven-year-old son shortly after 7pm.

As he approached the front door of the house, a car pulled up and a gunman ran from the car and fired at least three shots.

The man and his partner sustained what are believed to have been minor injuries.

The woman, who is in her late 20s, was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore where she was treated for a shoulder wound.

The man was treated at the scene.

A car was later found abandoned and burnt out about 6km away in Durrow.
