A woman has been arrested as part of the investigation into the violent death of a 65-year-old man in Limerick city last month.

Patrick Redmond died from a single stab wound to his back, after being found unconscious at an apartment at Mount Kennett Place on Limerick's Dock Road on 10 November.

The separated father was living in a neighbouring apartment but was originally from Dublin.

He had no criminal record.

Gardaí investigating his death made an arrest in the midlands this evening.

The woman, who is in her 40s, is being detained at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick.

She is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act and can be held for a period of 24 hours.
