Seven Dublin men charged in connection with an attack on a family home in Co Tipperary earlier this week have been remanded in custody at a special sitting of Cashel District Court.

John Joyce, 19, from Lentisk Lawn, Donaghmede; Patrick Joyce, 21, from Beaumont Hall, Beaumont Woods; and Michael McDonagh, 22, from Tara Lawns, Belcamp Lane, Coolock were charged with aggravated burglary.

Thomas Flynn, 19, Moatview Avenue, Coolock; Donal O'Hara, 21, from Glin Park, Coolock; Dean Byrne, 21, from Cabra Park; and Patrick Gately, 26, from Primrose Grove, Darndale, were also charged with the same offence.

They were arrested within six hours of an attack on a home in Killenaule in Co Tipperary on Thursday.

A gang smashed its way in through the front window of a house in the early hours of the morning.

Five of the gang were arrested by armed gardaí near Naas in Co Kildare 90 minutes later.

The other two were arrested at around 9am at Newlands Cross in Co Dublin.

The seven men were questioned for three days and were charged last night with aggravated burglary following consultations with the Director of Public Prosecutions.

They are due to appear in court again on 28 November.
