The jury in the trial of former solicitor Thomas Byrne has been sent home for the night after deliberating for seven hours over two days.

The jury is considering its verdicts on 50 theft, fraud and forgery charges against the former solicitor. It will resume in the morning.

Mr Byrne denies the charges which involve the fraudulent use of12 properties belonging to clients as security for loans of almost €52m from six different banks.

He claims his clients consented to the transfers.

He also claims the loans were taken out under duress as his life was threatened by his business partner, property developer John Kelly.
