Thomas Byrne claims loans were taken out under duress

The jury in the trial of Thomas Byrne has been sent home for the night after deliberating for two-and-a-half hours.

The jury is considering its verdicts on 50 theft, fraud and forgery charges against the former solicitor.

It will resume in the morning.

Mr Byrne, 47, denies using 12 properties belonging to clients as security for loans of almost €52m from six different banks.

He claims his clients consented to the transfers.

Mr Byrne also claims the loans were taken out under duress as his life was threatened by his business partner, property developer John Kelly.
