A field has been sealed off near Clonnee, Co Meath this evening following the discovery of a human arm.

Gardaí were called after the arm was found at around 4.30pm in a wooded area in a place known as The Mayne between Clonee and Kilbride.

However, with fading light it became too dark to conduct a search of the area.

The scene will remain sealed off overnight pending a full search involving divisional search teams and forensic specialists tomorrow.

The arm has been removed for fingerprints and DNA analysis to try to identify the person.

Gardaí in Ashbourne have appealed for anyone with information on the incident to contact them.
