Location for children's science museum announcedFriday 01 November 2013 11.02
A new national interactive science centre is to be located in Dublin's Earlsfort Terrace.
The facility will be housed in State-owned premises adjacent to the National Concert Hall.
The Exploration Station will be developed by the Irish Children’s Museum Ltd.
The facility was originally planned for a new building near Heuston Station, however, the Office of Public Works said the project could not proceed "in light of the budgetary situation and developments in the property market".
The Earlsfort Terrace building will be upgraded by the OPW over the next 36 months.
The development will improve accessibility and health and safety facilities in the premises.
Minister of State with responsibility for the OPW Brian Hayes said: "This is wonderful news for children and science alike.
"I'm certain that when this exciting new centre opens it will inspire a passion for discovery about science, technology and innovation."
