A search off the coast of Howth in Co Dublin as been stood down for the night.

The rescue effort was launched after a person was spotted getting into difficulty in the water.

Dublin Coast Guard said a member of the public alerted emergency services at around 7pm to the incident off Balscadden Road.

The search will resume tomorrow morning.
