A 34-year-old Dublin man is in a critical condition in the Mater Hospital following what gardaí have described as a hit-and-run incident.

The man was hit by a car in a lane near Clonliffe Road this afternoon.

Detectives believe he could have been deliberately knocked down.

A car was found burned-out on Stoney Road in East Wall short time later.

The man was on temporary release from prison, where he was serving a sentence for burglary in Coolock four years ago.

Gardaí at Mountjoy are appealing for witnesses or anybody with information to contact them.
