Gardaí in court over pepper spray assault

A court has been told that two gardai charged with assaulting a teenager with pepper spray will be contesting the case against them.

Brendan Dowling, 46, and Fiona Sheehan, 27, are both charged with assault causing harm to a 16-year-old boy at Cook Street in Cork in May 2012.

Defence solicitor Frank Buttimer told Judge Olan Kelleher at Cork District Court that the two gardaí would be contesting the case "fully on all fronts".

The case against the two gardai was listed for hearing on 6 January 2014.

The case is due for mention again in court on 18 December to confirm that it will be ready to proceed in January.
