A 39-year-old former member of the Garda Reserve has appeared in court in Limerick on a charge of making a false declaration to claim Jobseeker’s Allowance.
Charles Eyombo, with an address at The Courtyard, Bru Na Gruadan in Castletroy, Limerick, is charged with making the false declaration at the Department of Social Protection in Limerick city on 6 January last, by falsely declaring his circumstances had not changed.
Limerick District Court heard today that the investigation into the matter was an extremely complex one, stretching back over a number of years.
It heard gardaí had sought an adjournment of the case so they could seek further directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
It is understood the investigation stretches back to 2009 and allegedly involves sums of money of up to €40,000.
Mr Eyombo, a native of Cameroon, is a former member of the Garda Reserve and was based in Shannon in Co Clare.
The case was adjourned until 19 February for further directions from the DPP.
The accused man was remanded on continuing bail.
