The Naval Service has detained two EU-registered vessels for breaches of fishing regulations.

A French-registered fishing boat was stopped around 120 nautical miles west of Clare.

The detention was in relation to an alleged technical breach of fishing regulations.

It followed a similar operation when the LÉ Eithne apprehended a Spanish-registered vessel around 80 nautical miles south of Baltimore Bay earlier yesterday.

Both craft are being escorted to Castletownbere where they will be handed over to gardaí.

The two bring to ten the number of vessels detained by the Naval Service so far this year out of a total of 841 boarded.
