The Criminal Assets Bureau is selling a luxury watch on eBay, the first time it has auctioned off a confiscated item on the internet.

The watch - a Ladies Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust - which is fully certified and still in its box was purchased new for over €9,000.

It was seized last year from a criminal in Limerick who bought it for his partner as a Christmas present.

The bidding starts at €6,000.

CAB said it is treating the auction as a test case for the future sale of other seized high value luxury items on the internet, in line with other European police forces.

The money raised will ultimately be handed over to the Department of Finance.

The watch is categorised as used and there are less than ten days left to make an offer.
