Gardaí are treating as attempted murder the shooting of a man in Co Louth last night.

The victim, who is aged in his 40s, had been visiting a house in the Paddocks Estate in Termonfeckin when he was shot.

He was reversing out of the driveway in his car when a man approached him and fired several shots with an automatic pistol.

The victim was struck in the arm, leg and upper body but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Gardaí believe the gunman escaped in a late 1990s dark blue Volkswagen Passat.

The scene remains sealed off for a forensic examination.

Gardaí are also investigating if the shooting is linked to the seizure of €1.3m of cannabis in Termonfeckin last week.

They have appealed to anyone with information on last night's shooting to contact them.
